Tamale Pie

Use hot-style chili powder to give this saucy, quick-bread-topped, casserole real zing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz.) stewed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 cups Kellogg's Corn Flakes® cereal Buy Now
  • or 1/2 cup Kellogg's® Corn Flake Crumbs Buy Now
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup fat-free milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped ripe olives
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened

Directions:

1. In 12-inch fry pan, cook onion, green pepper, garlic and meat until meat is
browned and vegetables are tender. Drain off fat. Add tomatoes, the 1/2 teaspoon
salt, pepper and chili powder. Mix well. Pour into 2-quart round casserole
dish. Set aside.

2. Stir together KELLOGG'S CORN FLAKES cereal, flour, baking powder and
remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. Set aside.

3. In large mixing bowl, combine egg, milk, olives and margarine. Mix well.
Add cereal mixture, stirring until smooth. Spread over meat mixture.

4. Bake at 350° F about 45 minutes or until topping is lightly browned and
tests done. Serve hot.
