Irish Stew with Dumplings

Legend has is that St. Patrick saved Ireland by driving out the snakes. We're certain he got the energy to do it from eating a big bowl of this hearty lamb stew! We've given this traditional dish an unexpected twist of fiber and flavor by adding All-Bran® cereal dumplings to the mix.   • 1 pound stewing lamb
  • 6 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sliced carrots
  • 3/4 cup diced turnips
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons water

  • 1 egg, well-beaten
  • 1/2 cup Kellogg's® All-Bran® Original cereal
  • OR
  • 1/2 cup Kellogg's® All-Bran® Bran Buds® cereal Buy Now
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


1. Cut meat into 3/4-inch cubes. Place in 3-quart saucepan. Cover with water and simmer about 1 hour. Add vegetables and seasonings and continue simmering about 45 minutes.

2. In small mixing bowl, make a paste of the flour and water; stir into stew.

3. Combine egg, KELLOGG'S ALL-BRAN cereal and milk in a medium mixing bowl; let stand until most of moisture is taken up.

4. In small mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to cereal mixture, stirring only until combined.

5. Drop by teaspoonfuls on top of hot stew; cover tightly and let simmer about 20 minutes. Serve at once.
