Crunchy Candy Apples
Just like the festival candy apples, only better! These have crispy Kellogg's Corn Flakes® on the outside.
Prep Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
1. Place KELLOGG'S CORN FLAKES cereal in shallow dish. Set aside.
2. Remove stems from apples. Press ice cream sticks into bottoms of apples. Set aside.
3. In heavy medium saucepan combine sugar, water and corn syrup. Cook over medium-high heat until boiling, gently stirring until sugar dissolves. Clip candy thermometer to side of pan. Reduce heat to medium. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, without stirring, until thermometer registers 295° F to 300° F (hard crack stage*).
4. Remove from heat. Stir in cinnamon and food coloring. Dip each apple in sugar mixture and coat well, allowing excess to drip off. Quickly roll in cereal. Place on wax-paper-lined baking sheet to cool. Best served the same day.
If you don’t have a candy thermometer, spoon a few drops of hot mixture into cup of cold (not icy) water. At hard crack stage, the candy separates into hard, brittle threads that snap easily and cannot be formed into a ball.
