Clam Fritters

Bounty from the sea meets bounty from All-Bran® cereal! This delectable dish is a delicious departure from ordinary dinner fare. Serve these crispy, juicy clam fritters with a green salad and a baked potato, for a fun and casual Saturday dinner.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/4 cups (10.5 oz. can) minced clams
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening, melted
  • 1/2 cup Kellogg's® All-Bran® Original cereal
  • 2 tablespoons minced green bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • Oil for cooking

  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper


1. Stir together the 1 cup flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

2. Drain clams, reserving liquid for sauce.

3. In medium mixing bowl, combine egg, milk, shortening and KELLOGG'S
ALL-BRAN cereal. Let stand about 2 minutes or until cereal softens. Add flour
mixture, green pepper, 1 tablespoon onion and 2/3 cup of the clams. Mix well.

4. Drop by tablespoon into hot deep fat (375° F). Fry until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with Clam Sauce.

5. To make Clam Sauce, add enough water to clam juice to make 1 cup liquid.
In 1-quart saucepan, cook 1 tablespoon onion in margarine, over medium
until tender, stirring constantly. Stir in flour and pepper. Add liquid, stirring until
smooth. Cook until mixture boils, stirring constantly. Continue cooking and stirring
1 minute longer. Stir in remaining clams and heat thoroughly. Serve hot with Clam
